OPMD Association recognizes the importance of raising national awareness of Oculopharyngeal Muscular Dystrophy and the need to work with legislators, national health organizations, other foundations, and community organizations.
OPMD Legislative Initiative
Through the generosity and support of our donors, OPMD Association CEO, Michele Mulholland, traveled to Washington D.C. to meet with legislators. During 15 meetings, she discussed OPMD Community needs and how to gain support from National Institute of Heath, National Organization of Rare Diseases, Congress, influential policy makers and pharmaceutical companies. All legislators were receptive, but only one had ever heard of OPMD.
